Tokyo’s passionate photo community, now in one app

My deep dive into Tokyo’s photographic underworld continues—and today I stumbled upon a little gem I just have to share with you. The more I explore, the more fascinated I become with what this city has to offer on the photography scene.

Today’s spotlight is on Dmitry Rambovskiy. Not only as a photographer, but also as an app developer. Dmitry hasn’t been shooting for very long, at least from what I can tell, but long enough to begin carving out his own photographic voice. In an interview with Ephemere, he admits he’s still searching for a more defined “voice,” but his work is already hinting at a signature style. Originally from Russia, Dmitry has made Tokyo his home—an incredible setting to grow as a photographer and connect with a young, vibrant creative community.

What really caught my attention, though, is that Dmitry has built an app designed to help photography lovers discover exhibitions. He calls it Community. You’ll find it on the App Store (currently iPhone only) by searching community-exhibitions-japan. It’s free, and it gives you a constantly updated overview of shows and galleries—complete with maps and details. Honestly, it’s genius if you’re a photo enthusiast visiting Japan’s buzzing photography capital. Tokyo has so much to offer, but the real challenge is knowing where to start. That’s where Rambovskiy’s app becomes a game-changer.

As for his own photographic work, Dmitry has shown projects such as The Inner World (Moscow, 2021–2022), Notes vol. 1, and Doubts and Loneliness. His focus is on street photography, with a strong eye for contrasts—light and shadow, near and far, irony and metaphor. He captures the raw pulse of Tokyo’s streets in fleeting moments where the city itself becomes a collaborator in the frame.

You can follow his work on Instagram at re_sakusei—or simply search his name. Check him out, he’s worth a follow!

Highly recommended.
